History of Trek-a-Cross

The idea to bicycle across America came to the family probably 6 years ago. As we plan how we will serve as a family and what our summer plans will be (see blog page 'Open Letter') we planned on the Trek-a-Cross to be in 2012. With Keith in football and not wanting to jeopardize his senior year on the team we postponed the trip to 2013, this summer. As a family we have rarely done traveling without having it be a way to serve our world or mentor youth God has placed around us. We usually take youth with us where ever we go to the cabin or to the beach or.... Thank you Heavenly Father for the chance to serve in this way through the years.

So this bicycling trip across America has been developing through time. Riders at this time (and I say 'at this time' because we are a flexible people. We try not to 'boast about tomorrow' as James says James 4.13-17 If it is the Lord's will we are making these plans.) Luke Brubaker (nephew), Ben Hensen (Loft Leader) both have ridden the entire GAP & C and O Canal, Keith Brubaker (our son) and myself.

Having the trip be family and mentoring oriented, our support team at this time is Karen Brubaker, Ken Brubaker (our son), Vicki Brubaker (our college age daughter) and Chey Myers (neighborhood high school student).

I started serving in my life as a middle school student washing dishes at a Child Evangelism Camp in Quarryville, PA, working with the Crafts ministry and then Counseling the children. Summer camps and service has been a part of my life through out. Karen, too growing up serving at camps and youth with her father Jay Evans. As a graduated senior I participated with the Pocket Testament league and Calvary Church's youth mission trip to the Montreal Olympics in 1976. We handed out Gospels of John and shared as we were able. Through the years we have taken trips to the Bowery Mission in New York City to serve the homeless and addicted. With serving in our Churches youth ministry and the Loft and the local youth network we have taken part in going and serving, picking up trash on the streets of Lancaster, handing out hot chocolate to those on the street, giving out bottles of water and Gospels of John to those in parks, to name a few.

So as this Trek-a-Cross develops we want to be lead by the God's Spirit to serve.
1. We will be ready to give Gospels of John as we travel and ready to share.
2. We are planning several specific service projects along the way and will take others as they arise. (see blog page 'YWAM Pittsburgh')
3. We encourage you to Pray for us, Give financially if you are so lead, and encourage us as this will be a true challenge, physically and spiritually. (see blog page 'How you can join in support')

Note: A big Thanks to Steve Hensen (father of Ben) and the design of the Trek-a-Cross Logo
