Open Letter on some history of Family and CY Service Projects
A letter like this has not gone out to you since March 2010 or... this may be the first letter for some of you. CY is the name in “our times” for the 65 year old ministry that began as Lancaster YFC in 1945. CY continues the vision of reaching youth with the Gospel by being anchored to the Rock, Jesus Christ and staying geared to our times. I, Don, have been actively involved since 1972. In 1982 I became YFC staff full-time and in 2003 transitioned to being a public school teacher while receiving donations for the ministry part-time. Just sharing this brief history as a blessed reminder of God’s work through the years.
CY each week continues to reach Jr. High and Sr. High youth with Bible studies at the Lyndon Loft youth center that we have in the second floor of our garage. CY also encourages youth in their walk with God through individual mentoring, retreats, adventure trips, outreach events, and service projects. We, as a family, continue to stay involved in our local church and the network of youth ministries. We mentor and train teen and adult staff in leadership roles in the community and we’ve taken the lead in prayer times at the public school and after school programs, giving youth positive opportunities to live life as a follower of Jesus Christ.
In 2002 we had the opportunity to take our family of 8 on our church’s Bahamas mission trip. In 2008, God gave all “10 of us” the opportunity to serve at Frontier Camp in Texas. In 2010 we had the opportunity to serve at Camp Woody in Kodiak, Alaska in the Alaskan Project. This 2013 Summer Service Project is a combination of what we do all year in one 70 day project. Learning in everyday life to follow the Spirit’s lead to live godly and to reach out to those around us.
We are raising money for local youth with this project. Mainly because people ask what we are using the trip to raise money for and because we want you to be a part of the joy of the service. So the opportunity is there for you to participate.
We are very thankful to you for your prayers for the youth of Lancaster county. If you can give financially, great! If you will commit to pray regularly for this project even better, but know that we seek to follow God to reach people with the Gospel as we pray you continue to do so in your world of influence.
For the cause of Christ,
Don, Karen and Family
